The Dart Music Festival is usually held over the second weekend of May and in numerous different venues all around Dartmouth, including of course the George & Dragon, who are Gold Sponsors of the Festival. The Dart Music Festival attracts great support from enthusiastic local residents and visitors alike and brings the whole town together in Party Mood! Our large paved Beer Garden makes for a superb musical event in the Spring and Summer sunshine, or even inside now our premises have been so brilliantly refurbished! Outside there are also our large umbrellas if the weather is not so kind (but we always keep our fingers and anything else available well-crossed for the sunshine to turn-up for most of the event at least!).
The Dart Music Festival includes almost every type of music from individual folk artists and singer-songwriters, to gospel choirs, from pop, rock, blues and reggae bands to full orchestras, and from sea shanties to jazz and even opera. The Dart Music Festival is centred from the organiser's office adjacent to the Main Stage of the bandstand in Royal Avenue Gardens – right on the banks of the River Dart – and conveniently also less than 300 metres (2 minutes level walk) from the George & Dragon! Great to move between venues and see your favourite bands or something new, then sit down at the G&D for a rest and a drink in between, or indeed whilst watching our own musical line-up.
As the event is now such a ‘must-do’ for locals and visitors from all over the UK and even much further afield, everyone is advised to arrange their local accommodation well in advance and wherever possible to use the Park and Ride Buses and Taxis throughout the festival periods, as the car parks are soon filled or used for organisers and performers vehicles, plus the local roads are not the widest (to say the least!) and the whole town can easily become grid-locked - despite the best endeavours of the organisers and the authorities to keep traffic moving. Incidentally we are also now proudly offering our own visitor's accommodation in two newly refurbished flats above the pub itself!
Please see our Accommodation Page for more information.
In previous years we have had visitors who had come from all over the UK, plus far further afield from other countries including Ireland, France, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Poland. One year there were even some people who had timed their visits to the UK coincide with the Festival coming all the way from New Zealand and Australia, the USA and Canada. So whatever your reason for coming, you can be sure of a friendly welcome all around Dartmouth, and especially here at the George and Dragon – Good Music, Good Food and Drinks, plus a great location and place to relax in amongst all of the different Dart Music Festival events.
